THE PLAYS
Weekend play results:
QGEN: Still testing the breakout, closing at the 10 day EMA
RJF: Still working on the handle.
CROX: Starting back up off the 10 day EMA
MA: Continued the bounce off the 18 day EMA
WFR: Solid.
PGH: Still riding the 10 day EMA.
New Plays:
Upside:
Play Date: 01/22/2007
ILMN (Illumina--$40.55; +1.05; optionable): Biotechnology
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/i/ilmn.html
STATUS: Cup. Volume jumped above average Monday as ILMN started off the bottom of a 13 week base that used the 90 day SMA (38.37) as support. Solid leader that is heading toward its all-time high hit back in late 2000. It tends to have explosive moves off these patterns so we want to be ready to move in.
Volume: 1.735M Avg Volume: 936.87K
BUY POINT: $40.77 Volume=1.2M Target=$48.95 Stop=$38.92
POSITION: IQA FH - June $40c (56 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 01/22/2007
OII (Oceaneering Intl.--$39.30; +0.35; optionable): Oil and gas offshore drilling and services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/o/oii.html
STATUS: Test 50 day EMA. This is one of those energy stocks that look ready to make the rebound even if it is short term. It gapped back over the 200 day SMA two weeks back, moved laterally and then gapped higher Monday. Looking to move in as it continues higher and ride this move as long as we can.
Volume: 794K Avg Volume: 868.085K
BUY POINT: $39.65 Volume=1.2M Target=$45.95 Stop=$38.21
POSITION: OII DH - Apr. $40c (52 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 01/22/2007
SLE (Sara Lee--$17.19; +0.26; optionable): Processed and packaged foods
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/sle.html
STATUS: Ascending base breakout. The description of its sector is so bland. Everybody doesn't like something, and nobody doesn't like Sara Lee. Monday SLE gapped higher, clearing an 11 week base on strong, above average volume; apparently a lot of institutions liked it quite a bit as well. Nice breakout as SLE is on the way to a recovery from a long slide lower.
Volume: 5.492M Avg Volume: 4.603M
BUY POINT: $17.31 Volume=5M Target=$20.31 Stop=$16.68
POSITION: SLE GW - July $17.50c (51 delta) &/or Stock

Downside:
Play Date: 01/22/2007
NVLS (Novellus Systems--$30.02; -0.59; optionable): Chip equipment
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/n/nvls.html
STATUS: Put. NVLS faded back to test the 50 day EMA the first two weeks of the year, testing a strong November and December run. Then it gapped lower Thursday in the chip wreck, tried the 90 day SMA (30.77) Friday, and then rolled back over Monday. Looking to move in if the chips get no relief from the TXN earnings. A move to the target lands a 55%ish gain.
Volume: 5.468M Avg Volume: 5.424M
BUY POINT: $29.87 Volume=6M Target=$28.00 Stop=$30.31
POSITION: NLQ OF - Mar. $30p (-44 delta)

SUBSCRIBER PORTFOLIO: These are stocks subscribers suggest by vote that we put in a portfolio to track and move into the stocks if they perform well. If you have any suggestions for additions or deletions, email us. We don't cover them all each report, just when something interesting is developing.
AAPL, AKAM, CELG, DRIV, GME, GOOG, ISE, MA, MRVL, NVDA, WEBX
AAPL: Down again, this time to the 50 day EMA on stronger volume. It is getting to the point where we need to start looking if it is going to hold up.
CELG: Breaking lower below the recent attempt to consolidate. Heading lower from this head and shoulders pattern.
MA: Nice price move though volume lagged.
MRVL: Hardly marvelous.
NVDA: Modes move higher and has the look of a rollover.
Good Investing!
