stock split, stock recommendation

Begin part 3 of 3

THE PLAYS:

Good movers: CELG; RS

New Pre-Split plays:

Play Date: 04/19/2007
VIVO (Meridian Biosciences--$30.36; +0.63; optionable): Diagnostic substances
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/v/vivo.html
EARNINGS: Announced 4-19-07
STATUS: Double bottom. VIVO broke higher from an 11 week base last week, tested Tuesday and Wednesday, and then started back up Thursday on strong volume with its earnings and split announcement. Moving to a new all-time high. This small base is the consolidation of the January breakout from a larger 9 month base. That means it has a good foundation under it to give it a nice run higher.
Volume: 401.749K Avg Volume: 175.789K
BUY POINT: $30.57 Volume=275K Target=$35.45 Stop=$29.54
POSITION: ZUG GF - July $30c (68 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/vivo.html

New Post-Split plays:

Play Date: 04/19/2007
COP (ConocoPhillips--$69.28; -0.56; optionable): Major oil
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/cop.html
EARNINGS: 4-25-07
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Nice low volume, orderly pullback to the 18 day EMA, forming a nice handle to its 17 week base. Showing a tight doji at the 18 day EMA, indicating it is ready to start the move to the breakout. Looking for a move up to the December high as our initial target, but if it is moving well we will let it continue . . . after taking some gain off the table.
Volume: 6.698M Avg Volume: 10.979M
BUY POINT: $69.78 Volume=11M Target=$74.95 Stop=$68.72
POSITION: COP HN - Aug. $70c (53 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/cop.html

New Leader Plays:

Play Date: 04/19/2007
VCLK (Valueclick--$29.24; -0.53; optionable): Internet advertising services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/v/vclk.html
EARNINGS: 5-3-07
STATUS: Test breakout. VCLK gapped lower on the EBAY earnings, holding the 10 day EMA on the close, showing a hammer doji on the candlestick chart. That pullback also put it right on top of the late February high that marks the top of its 7 week cup with handle base. We are looking for VCLK to hold this support and then start to bounce on rising trade. If it does we move right in. Solid fundamentals to go with its strong technical pattern.
Volume: 1.538M Avg Volume: 1.944M
BUY POINT: $29.88 Volume=2.6M Target=$35.45 Stop=$28.95
POSITION: QCS IF - Sept. $30c (61 delta) &/or Stock

PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS

We consider many stocks for pre-announcement plays every week. We get information regarding upcoming announcements and other data that leads us to conclude a split announcement is coming. Even then, however, we have to be discriminating. We have to see a strong technical pattern as well, and thus we reject many potential candidates based on a weak technical position. Some we consider have announced, but have not fared well given their technical patterns were weak to begin with.

The key today is to find stocks in strong patterns or that are ready to rebound off support. A split announcement will amplify the move higher in these cases as we enjoy moves from strong leaders in position to run higher. We won't chase a stock in a poor technical position even if we know it is going to split; it simply won't do us any good, i.e. it won't make us any money to the upside. We could list all stocks we think are going to split, but again, that won't make us any money unless we are in an office pool as to what stocks will or won't announce a stock split.

Current Pre-Announcement Plays:

This is a list of stocks we are looking to announce splits. We are not in all of the potential splits plays but are letting them set up for the next move. In each report we look at the candidates that are in the best patterns ahead of their potential announcements. This focus on leaders in good patterns allows us to make good money even if companies do not announce the split. The key with splits is the pattern and of course the strong earnings growth that put it in the pattern in the first place.

NEW PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS:

Play Date: 04/19/2007
MICC (Millicom Cellular--$84.43; +1.22; optionable): Worldwide mobile telephone services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/m/micc.html
EARNINGS: 4-24-07
STATUS: Test breakout. Taking another look at MICC as it put in more work on its 9 week ascending base. It worked laterally in a tight range for a week and then gapped lower Thursday only to recover and close positive at the top of its range and on strong volume. Like the low to high action. Looking to move in if it can show us the breakout move.
Volume: 627.483K Avg Volume: 600.757K
BUY POINT: $84.88 Volume=900K Target=$97.75 Stop=$81.98
POSITION: CQD GQ - July $85c (51 delta) &/or Stock

MCHP (Microchip--$37.36; +0.33; optionable): Semiconductors
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/m/mchp.html
EARNINGS: 4-26-07
STATUS: Double bottom w/handle. Nice little 8 week base over the 90 day MA is acting as the handle to its larger 13 month base. Volume surged Wednesday as the chips came to life. Looks strong and is a chip ready for a breakout to a new all-time high.
Volume: 1.72M Avg Volume: 2.059M
BUY POINT: $37.95 Volume=3.1M Target=$43.75 Stop=$36.45
POSITION: QMT GG - July $35c (66 delta) &/or Stock

CONTINUING PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS:

Play Date: 04/09/2007
AMX (America Movil--$51.11; +0.36; optionable): Mobile telephones services in Latin America
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/amx.html
EARNINGS: 4-25-07
STATUS: Test breakout. AMX got some volume Thursday as it opened lower then rebounded to close at the top of its three week lateral range. Strong breakout to start the Month, then the immediate lateral move. Looks ready to make the next run in its breakout. Solid.
Volume: 4.192M Avg Volume: 5.759M
BUY POINT: $50.72 Volume=6M Target=$57.95 Stop=$48.88
POSITION: AMX HJ - Aug. $50c (57 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/amx.html

Play Date: 04/17/2007
YUM (Yum! Brands--$60.68; -0.47; optionable): KFC, Taco Bell, etc.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/y/yum.html
EARNINGS: 5-1-07
STATUS: Double bottom. Still working laterally, testing the sharp break higher Monday. Still looks ripe for the next break higher. To recap: YUM broke sharply higher Monday on rising, above average volume, approaching the 'hump' in its 4 month base that is setting the stock up for a breakout to a new high. Took a day off Tuesday on lower trade. Looking at some aggressive positions on another sharp move higher It had the tainted food awhile back and got boxed around. That did not stop it from setting up for a run at a new all-time high.
Volume: 863.3K Avg Volume: 1.39M
BUY POINT: $61.55 Volume=2.1M Target=$70.75 Stop=$59.38
POSITION: YUM GL - July $60c (57 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/yum.html

CONTINUING POST-SPLIT PLAYS:

Play Date: 04/16/2007
ROST (Ross Stores--$34.53; +0.14; optionable): Apparel stores
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/r/rost.html
EARNINGS: 5-23-07
STATUS: Cup w/handle. After a quick drop to the 50 day EMA to end last week ROST bounced this week on strong volume, then fading to test the 18 day EMA on the Thursday low and then rebounding to close positive. Nice shakeout and good recovery. Just looking for volume to rebound as ROST makes the break higher.
Volume: 818.866K Avg Volume: 1.354M
BUY POINT: $34.95 Volume=1.6M Target=$40.45 Stop=$33.24
POSITION: REQ HZ - Aug. $32.50c (69 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/rost.html

CONTINUING LEADER PLAYS:

Play Date: 04/16/2007
AKAM (Akami Technologies--$53.65; +0.06; optionable): Digital media distribution and storage, etc. for the internet
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/akam.html
EARNINGS: 4-25-07
STATUS: Double bottom. Still forming that handle, working laterally on low volume. Very nice set up and just waiting for it to finish the lateral move and blast higher on strong volume. To recap: AKAM has formed something we call a 'flying W' double bottom where the second leg does not undercut the prior one. With a strong stock this is a bullish pattern. AKAM made a high volume gap last Thursday that took it to the 'hump' in the double bottom. It did not make the break, but it caught our attention. Monday volume was up but still below average as it made the break over that mid-point in the pattern. Still looking for more volume as it continues higher. AKAM was a strong performer for us in its big 2006 run. It needed a break after that run and after a choppy end of 2006 and this base it has the look of being ready to make the move.
Volume: 2.465M Avg Volume: 4.083M
BUY POINT: $54.39 Volume=6M Target=$62.50 Stop=$52.68
POSITION: UMU HK - Aug. $55c (55 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/akam.html

Play Date: 04/18/2007
HITT (Hittite Microwave--$44.42; -0.06; optionable): Semiconductor integrated circuits
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/h/hitt.html
EARNINGS: 4-26-07
STATUS: Double bottom w/handle. Low volume continues as HITT continues laterally in its handle, holding the 10 day EMA on the low and rebounding to flat. Still a nice set up for the breakout move. To recap: Working on the handle to a 6 month base, using the 10 day EMA as support, bouncing off that near support Wednesday, tapping at the February high that marks the breakout point. Needs some more volume but a leader in its sector. Nice set up.
Volume: 189.179K Avg Volume: 304.33K
BUY POINT: $45.05 Volume=450K Target=$53.95 Stop=$42.68
POSITION: QDH II - Sept. $45c (51 delta, low OI) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/hitt.html
