THE PLAYS

Good movers: ALJ; BTU; HOC; MON; MS; OIH; OMCL; ROCM; RS; SPWR; SUN; TESO; VLCM; WFR

New Plays:

Upside:

Play Date: 04/25/2007
HNP (Huaneng Power Intl.--$41.37; -0.20; optionable): Thermal power plants in China
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/h/hnp.html
EARNINGS: Announced 4-24-07
STATUS: Test breakout. Testing the gap higher from Tuesday as HNP looks ready to resume the break higher that was tested the past two weeks, holding the 18 day EMA on that test. Gapped higher Tuesday on the earnings, tested a bit Wednesday. A higher low at the 10 day EMA is a good point to continue the breakout move from its 12 week base. It broke out in early April, then spent the past two weeks testing. It held the 18 day EMA last week after gapping lower on that last 'China scare' regarding too strong of growth. Nothing wrong with growth. It gapped higher Tuesday, and we are looking to move in as HNP clears some resistance at 42.
Volume: 179.5K Avg Volume: 209.61K
BUY POINT: $42.11 Volume=225K Target=$49.95 Stop=$40.22
POSITION: HNP HH - Aug. $40c (58 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 04/25/2007
RIG (Transocean--$85.69; +2.14; optionable): Offshore oil drilling
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/r/rig.html
EARNINGS: 5-2-07
STATUS: Double bottom w/handle breakout. RIG gapped higher Wednesday on stronger, above average volume, breaking out of a 18 week base that is part of a larger 12 month base. As oil prices climb these offshore drillers are more and more in demand. Looking to start the position as it continues higher and then pick up some more on the test.

Play Date: 04/25/2007
SWS (SWS Group--$26.62; +0.20; optionable): Financial, investment services to corporate, institutional investors, broker/dealers, governmental entities
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/sws.html
EARNINGS: 5-8-07
STATUS: Cup w/handle. SWS is showing a nice hammer doji at the 10 day EMA as it faded back on lower, below average volume, forming a handle to its 11 week base that used the 50 and 90 day MA as support on the lows. Nice October to January run that needed a breather after its split. That has set up the next break higher.
Volume: 185.84K Avg Volume: 347.644K
BUY POINT: $27.68 Volume=521K Target=$32.95 Stop=$25.85
POSITION: SWS IE - Sept. $25c (69 delta, low OI) &/or Stock

Continuing plays ready to move:

Play Date: 04/24/2007
APH (Amphenol Corp.--$35.58; -0.02; optionable): Electrical, electronic, and fiber optic connectors, coax cable, etc.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/aph.html
EARNINGS: 4-18-07
STATUS: Test breakout. A second nice doji at the 10 day EMA, tapping that near support on the low and rebounding to flat. Volume remained strong. Still looks ready for that next run higher after this test. To recap: APH broke higher last week on strong volume, surging out of a 22 week base that set a great foundation for the move. It rallied to 36.54 on the high and then faded to test, gapping lower Monday but on much lower volume. Tuesday APH tapped the 10 day EMA (35.08) on the low and rebounded for a modest gain, but volume jumped back up. That shows buyers at the ready to move in as it tested and held near support. Looking for a rebound on continued solid trade to start the play.
Volume: 1.684M Avg Volume: 1.152M
BUY POINT: $36.07 Volume=1.7M Target=$41.95 Stop=$34.95
POSITION: APH GG - July $35c (56 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 04/18/2007
PTNR (Partner Communications--$16.36; +0.37; optionable): Israeli mobile telephony on GSM technology
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/ptnr.html
EARNINGS: 5-7-07
STATUS: Breakout test. Volume surged Wednesday as PTNR started higher, just clearing the highs hit earlier in the month. Excellent action and a buy as it continues higher through the buy point. To recap: PTNR broke out from its 6 week double bottom with handle in early April on a strong volume surge. Peaked at 16.30ish on the initial move and then tested the past week, holding the 10 day EMA on the lows. Volume was mostly lower, indicating little selling on the pullback. Volume jumped back up Wednesday as PTNR held the 10 day. Looking for a strong break higher to indicate the buyers are back in.
Volume: 907.386K Avg Volume: 403.34K
BUY POINT: $16.42 Volume=606K Target=$19.75 Stop=$15.57
POSITION: QPO HC - Aug. $15c (65 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 04/24/2007
ROSE (Rosetta Resources--$21.95; +0.05; optionable): Acquisition, development of oil and natural gas properties in the US
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/r/rose.html
EARNINGS: Mid-May
STATUS: Test breakout. Nice tight doji that tapped the 18 day EMA on the low and recovered. Volume surged, the best in two weeks. ROSE looks ready to hold the line and start back up. Looks solid. To recap: A new issue in February 2007, ROSE is testing the early April breakout from its first base, a 12 month cup with handle. Came public, rallied a bit, and then spent most of its life forming the base. Nice breakout and run up to 23.78 and then the test the past week. Holding at the 18 day EMA (21.80) on the Tuesday close on a second day of below average volume. Looking for ROSE to hold here and rebound through the 10 day EMA (22.19) on strong trade. That will be our entry point.
Volume: 726.626K Avg Volume: 254.637K
BUY POINT: $22.32 Volume=380K Target=$26.32 Stop=$21.69
POSITION: RSE JX - Oct. $22.50c (50 delta) &/or Stock

AAPL: Screaming higher after hours on strong earnings. We sold part ahead of the news and kept some for 'speculation.' At least we have that.

AKAM: Heading the other way after hours with its earnings miss.
