Play Date: 06/02/2007
GILD (Gilead Sciences--$83.00; +0.23; optionable): Biotechnology. Splits 2:1 on 6-25-07
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/g/gild.html
STATUS: Flying plateau. GILD continues to set up nicely in its 6 week lateral trading range that is working along the 18 day EMA (82.42), holding that near support on mostly low volume. Setting up nicely and showing some rising volume last week as GILD moved up off a test toward the 50 day EMA on an intraday low. Money flow remains strong, and with that volume starting up we are on watch this week for the breakout from this range.
Volume: 2.362M Avg Volume: 4.149M
BUY POINT: $84.38 Volume=6.5M Target=$94.95 Stop=$81.89

JADE (LJ Intl.--$11.90; -0.38; optionable): Design, manufacture and distribution of fine jewelry
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/j/jade.html
STATUS: Cup w/handle. JADE is working toward the breakout from a 13 week base that is consolidating the strong breakout and run from January. Strong 4 to 1 accumulation in the base (4 up price weeks on rising volume to 1 down price weeks on rising volume) shows plenty of buying during the base, and that sets up the breakout move. Good price/volume action as well with several upside volume spikes during the base is setting up the breakout well. Just has to show the volume on the break higher.

KNOL (Knology, Inc.--$18.61; 0.00; no options): Interactive broadband service in southeast US
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/k/knol.html
EARNINGS: Announced 5-3-07
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Yes it is a bit small to label it as such being just 4 weeks old, but that is what KNOL has set up after that strong run January to early May that made us some solid coin. It has taken a blow, coming back and using near support at the 18 day EMA (18.12) as support, and has held, showing its strength. Solid volume Wednesday as it jumped higher off the lateral support and then tested to end the week, showing a tight doji over the 10 day EMA. Looking for this short pattern to yield a breakout and the start of another run higher.
Volume: 104.251K Avg Volume: 159.502K

Play Date: 06/02/2007
NUE (Nucor--$69.25; +1.71; optionable): Steel and iron
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/n/nue.html
STATUS: Ascending base breakout. Volume jumped to end last week as NUE made a run off a higher low in its 24 week base and started the breakout move. Volume was lower Friday, but it was still average and followed two solid above average sessions. Nice break in progress and ready to move in as it continues. It may show some weakness to start the week, and frankly that is all the better if it comes back near 68 and rebounds from there. Either way it looks solid as it breaks to a new high.
Volume: 3.316M Avg Volume: 3.564M

OTEX (Open Text--$23.01; +0.11; optionable): Enterprise content management services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/o/otex.html
EARNINGS: Announced 5-2-07
STATUS: Test 50 day EMA. OTEX is working in a large 3.5 year double bottom base, and it looks as if it is getting toward the end with this 50 day EMA (22.72) test the past two weeks as it sets up for the breakout from the 14 week base that has set up. Strong volume is working higher as OTEX makes the test. Volume spiked above average Friday as OTEX started up off the 50 day. Looks ready to move.

ATHR (Atheros Communications--$29.97; +0.86; optionable): Semiconductor integrated circuites
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/athr.html
EARNINGS: Announced 4-30-07
STATUS: Breakout test. Volume moved above average Friday as ATHR broke over the recent highs. Volume was a bit less than our target trade, but it was just about good enough to be there. Looking to move in this week if it continues the move.
Volume: 1.861M Avg Volume: 1.489M

OMNI (Omni Energy Svc.--$11.05; +0.12; optionable): Oil and gas services in Gulf of Mexico (seismic, environmental services, etc.)
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/o/omni.html
STATUS: Ascending triangle. OMNI is still poised in excellent position to deliver the breakout, making a higher low last week over the 18 day EMA (10.66). Strong money flow continues to lead and volume jumped up to average Friday. Looks ripe. To recap: OMNI is in a big 11 month triangle. It shot higher on 5-17 when it raised its guidance. That took it to the December high at 11.75ish, roughly the top of the pattern. Strong volume on that move and then a low volume side-step Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday OMNI was moving back up with a sharp gain on a jump in volume back above average. Money flow is surging higher ahead of price, and OMNI is ready to make the break from this nice accumulation pattern.

Play Date: 05/26/2007
SLB (Schlumberger--$78.19; +0.32; optionable): Oil and gas well logging services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/slb.html
STATUS: Breakout test. SLB is holding the 18 day EMA (77.65), and that keeps it on top of its April peak. There was some distribution volume Thursday, but like how it held its ground Friday. Looking for some strong, above average volume as SLB breaks higher and through the buy point.
Volume: 8.221M Avg Volume: 9.04M
BUY POINT: $80.22 Volume=10M Target=$91.95 Stop=$78.11

SVNT (Savient Pharma--$14.09; -0.13; optionable): Biotech
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/svnt.html
EARNINGS: 5-7-07
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Still working on the handle, holding the 10 day EMA (14.01) Friday on continued above average volume that spiked higher Thursday as SVNT tested near support and bounced back up. Looking for that volume to continue as SVNT makes the break higher. To recap: After a nice low volume test the past week to form the handle to its 17 week base, volume jumped well above average Thursday, the best trade in over a month. Nice set up to a 6.5 year new high. SVNT has made us some solid money in the past on its runs, and it is quietly setting up to do the same.
Volume: 894.174K Avg Volume: 733.149K
BUY POINT: $14.80 Volume=110K Target=$17.95 Stop=$13.85
POSITION: UVP IV - Sept. $12.50c (75 delta) &/or Stock

TRMB (Trimble Navigation--$29.25; +0.06; optionable): High end positioning devices
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/t/trmb.html
EARNINGS: 5-3-07
STATUS: 50 day EMA test. Volume spiked well above average Friday as TRMB tapped the 50 day SMA on the low and rebounded, showing a nice, tight doji. That should be the final shakeout as the buyers moved back in and drove TRMB back up after the test. Nice. To recap: Taking another look at TRMB as it has set up a nice bounce higher to continue the breakout move. It broke sharply higher in early May after earnings, gapping out of a 13 week cup with handle base. Nice low volume test with a 'get ready' above average volume spike Tuesday as TRMB bounced off support. Strong money flow is holding up nicely as TRMB tests. Volume moved up to average Thursday; looking for stronger volume as it makes the break higher and moves back up through the buy point.
Volume: 1.132M Avg Volume: 550.823K
