THE PLAYS
New Plays:
Upside:
Play Date: 07/24/2007
BBBB (Blackboard--$44.34; -0.69; optionable): Enterprise software to the education industry
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/b/bbbb.html
EARNINGS: 7-31-07
STATUS: Test 18 day EMA. BBBB is testing the breakout from a 7 week ascending base two weeks back, coming back to the 18 day EMA (44.06) the past three sessions to test the break. The move took BBBB to a new high and this test is setting it up for the next break to a new high. Like how BBBB has held key support as the market sells off.

CSCO (Cisco--$29.76; -0.50; optionable): PC networking/communication equipment
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/csco.html
EARNINGS: 8-7-07
STATUS: Flying plateau. CSCO is showing great relative strength even as its home, NASDAQ, falls hard. Instead, CSCO is holding a lateral move above the 10 day EMA (29.55) following its early July breakout from a 25 week double bottom with handle base. Like how it is ignoring the market and making its consolidation. Just waiting for CSCO to make its break higher and continue the breakout move. CEO Chambers is quite excited about the company's prospects, saying there is 10 years ahead of the second phase of the internet build out. Hmmm. I recall the housing CEO's in summer 2005 (when we said the housing market peaked) saying there was a 10 year demographic that would keep the housing market hot. So, take it with a grain of salt. The pattern and the action in a weak market, however, are solid.

MIL (Millipore--$79.38; -0.09; optionable): Life science technology and services for development of drugs, vaccines, etc.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/m/mil.html
EARNINGS: 7/31/2007
STATUS: Breakout test. MIL made a nice break higher two weeks back, moving out of a 21 week ascending base on strong volume. It rallied to 80 and then tested, holding at the breakout point last week and then starting back up. Tried to make the break Monday but could not hold the move. Just a matter of time given its strength in the weak market.

SPWR (SunPower Corp.--$67.93; -2.61; optionable): Solar electric power products
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/spwr.html
EARNINGS: Announced 7-19-07
STATUS: Test 18 day EMA. Looking at SPWR once more as it has held the 18 day EMA (66.97) following the late June breakout and run from a short 7 week cup base. Monday it surged higher on solid volume and then faded back on Tuesday, but on low volume. Set up nicely even in a weak market and looking to move in as SPWR turns back toward the sun.
Volume: 1.559M Avg Volume: 1.646M
BUY POINT: $70.65 Volume=2M Target=$80.95 Stop=$66.77
POSITION: QSU LN - Dec. $70c (55 delta) &/or Stock

SUBSCRIBER PORTFOLIO: These are stocks subscribers suggest by vote that we put in a portfolio to track and move into the stocks if they perform well. If you have any suggestions for additions or deletions, email us. We don't cover them all each report, just when something interesting is developing.
AAPL, AKAM, CELG, EDU, GME, GOOG, MA, PCLN, NVDA, VLO
AAPL: Fears that T's results showed fewer iPhone sales sent the stock lower. Earnings Wednesday after the close. Held the 18 day EMA on the close, a good sign, but it is a tough choice going into earnings with such a big gain under its belt.
NVDA: Excellent relative strength as NVDA tests the 18 day EMA on low, below. Pulling back, but basically ignoring the market.
