THE PLAYS

New Plays:

Upside:

Play Date: 10/01/2007
ALGN (Align Tech--$27.06; +1.73; optionable): Medical appliances
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/algn.html
EARNINGS: 10-24-07
STATUS: Reverse head and shoulders. Volume was up last week as ALGN bounced higher and through the 50 day EMA, and it was up again Monday as it broke higher once more, clearing the July consolidation range. This move is taking it out of its 10 week base as it follows some strong money flow toward a new high. Strong move and looking to enter as it continues to run higher.
Volume: 1.62M Avg Volume: 1.186M
BUY POINT: $27.65 Volume=1.2M Target=$33.25 Stop=$25.89
POSITION: CUA AE - Jan. $25c (69 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 10/01/2007
CIEN (Ciena--$39.17; +1.09; optionable): Telecom equipment
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/cien.html
EARNINGS: 10-30-07
STATUS: CIEN is breaking higher off the 50 day EMA (37.12) on rising, above average volume, starting toward the breakout from its 10 week flat base that formed using the 50 day as support. Excellent money flow is running higher ahead of price, and CIEN looks ready to make the move it looked to be ready to take on earlier in September. Looking solid.
Volume: 3.807M Avg Volume: 2.927M
BUY POINT: $39.55 Volume=4M Target=$48.65 Stop=$37.68
POSITION: EUQ AG - Jan. $35c (75 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/ct/cien.html

Play Date: 10/01/2007
FLS (Flowserve--$77.88; +1.70; optionable): Flow control equipment for oil and gas, power generation, water treatment, etc.
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/f/fls.html
EARNINGS: First week of November
STATUS: Breakout test. Volume jumped to end last week and FLS jumped higher and made a tentative breakout from a 10 week reverse head and shoulders base. Good volume on the break higher, and even better volume Monday as it bounced off the 10 day EMA test made on Friday. Looking for solid volume to continue as FLS pushes higher off of this test. That will give us the buy as it shows the buyers still want it even at a higher price following the breakout move.
Volume: 858.9K Avg Volume: 547.386K
BUY POINT: $78.35 Volume=850K Target=$89.95 Stop=$75.95
POSITION: FLS AO - Jan. $75c (57 delta, low OI) &/or Stock

Play Date: 10/01/2007
KNDL (Kendle Intl.--$42.75; +1.22; optionable): Drugs
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/k/kndl.html
EARNINGS: 10-31-07
STATUS: Breakout test. KNDL blasted higher late August, clearing a 7 month base. It surged up to 44 on the move and spent the past week coming back to make the test of the breakout move. It held at the 18 day EMA (41.57) on the lows, showing a doji Friday. It then bounced Monday on a very strong shot of above average volume. Looks ready to continue the breakout run and ready to step in as it does.
Volume: 619.731K Avg Volume: 368.142K
BUY POINT: $43.05 Volume=385K Target=$49.50 Stop=$41.42
POSITION: QNN BH - Feb. $40c (68 delta, 82 OI) &/or Stock

Play Date: 10/01/2007
MA (MasterCard--$153.37; +5.40; optionable): Credit services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/m/ma.html
EARNINGS: 10-31-07
STATUS: Cup w/handle. MA is picking up some volume as it breaks out of the handle to its 10 week base. Made a higher low at the 50 day EMA last week and broke above the handle high on Monday. MA is one of the financials that is picking up the pace after a good base consolidated the strong run in the first half of the year. Looking for volume to continue as MA keeps the move going.
Volume: 3.714M Avg Volume: 3.537M
BUY POINT: $153.88 Volume=4M Target=$172.95 Stop=$149.88
POSITION: MAL AJ - Jan. $150c (61 delta)

Play Date: 10/01/2007
STP (Suntech Power Holdings--$41.93; +2.03; optionable): Photovoltaic cells, modules
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/stp.html
EARNINGS: 11-8-07
STATUS: Reverse head and shoulders. Volume surged Monday as it did last week as STP moved higher, as STP bounced up off the 10 day EMA test (40.29) and headed toward the breakout from its 11 week base. Looking for the breakout let STP make the move toward the early 2006 high at 45ish. Really like the strong volume it has shown on the upside sessions as it broke higher.
Volume: 3.869M Avg Volume: 2.6M
BUY POINT: $42.55 Volume=3.9M Target=$50.95 Stop=$39.92
POSITION: STP AH - Jan. $40c (64 delta) &/or Stock

CONTINUING PLAYS:

Play Date: 09/29/2007
BIDU (Baidu.com--$284.81; -4.84; optionable): Chinese Google
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/b/bidu.html
EARNINGS: 10-25-07
STATUS: Test breakout. Continued the test Monday, but looks very solid as it tapped the 10 day EMA on the low (280.66) and then rebounded to recoup some of the loss. Volume was up to average, but this still looks like a solid test. Moved the buy point a bit lower to account for this further pullback. To recap: After that tremendous surge that netted us a tremendous gain, BIDU is making the test, heading back toward the 10 day EMA (279.41) with a pair of tight dojis on the candlestick pattern to end the week. Would like it to make a full test of the 10 day EMA, but if it starts up here we will start moving in for the next run.
Volume: 4.736M Avg Volume: 4.643M
BUY POINT: New: $289.88 (orig. $292.11) Volume=5M Target=$336.00 Stop=$282.45
POSITION: BDU AZ - Jan. $300c (54 delta)
http://www.investmenthouse.com/ct/bidu.html

Play Date: 09/29/2007
VSEA (Varian Semiconductor--$53.38; -0.14; optionable): Semiconductor equipment
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/v/vsea.html
EARNINGS: 10-25-07
STATUS: Test 50 day EMA. Tested the waters a bit Monday, rising to 55 on the high on some stronger though still below average volume. Still looks set to make the move, and just going to be patient and let this chip leaders show us it is ready to move higher. To recap: VSEA made us some great money in 2006 and earlier this year. It got the dips in August, but it found bottom and moved to a new high to start September. It has since made a very low volume, orderly pullback as the 50 day EMA (50.87) rose to meet it. Looks to have settled down at this point and is ready to make the move higher. When it makes the break on strong volume that is when we move in.
Volume: 1.207M Avg Volume: 1.716M
BUY POINT: $55.12 Volume=2.6M Target=$63.45 Stop=$52.35
POSITION: UES AK - Jan. $55c (54 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/ct/vsea.html

Play Date: 09/29/2007
XTO (XTO Energy--$62.80; +0.96; optionable): Independent oil and gas
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/x/xto.html
EARNINGS: 10-24-07
STATUS: Double bottom w/handle. Not a bad bounce higher off the 10 day EMA (61.72) but volume was still too low. Just going to be patient and let it show us the breakout from this nicely formed base. To recap: A great runner the first half of 2007, XTO got winded and needed a new base after hitting a new all-time high. A nice 14 week pattern has formed with a low volume handle the past two weeks above the 10 day EMA. May take a few more sessions to complete the handle, but it is in excellent shape for a new breakout to a new all-time high and another good run from there.
Volume: 2.417M Avg Volume: 4.182M
BUY POINT: $63.12 Volume=6.3M Target=$76.25 Stop=$61.08
POSITION: XTO AL - Jan. $60c (65 delta) &/or Stock
