THE PLAYS:

New Post split plays:

Play Date: 10/30/2007
HRS (Harris Corp.--$60.70; -0.70; optionable): Telecom equipment
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/h/hrs.html
EARNINGS: 11-1-07 after the close
STATUS: Ascending base. Volume has started to swell the past week as HRS came off the last low in its 10 week base using the 50 day EMA and the 90 day SMA on the lows as support. It has rebounded up to the top of the base, following some strong money flow. May come back to test the 10 day EMA near 60 before moving back up. Want to see that strong volume continue as it makes the breakout.
Volume: 662.4K Avg Volume: 790.976K
BUY POINT: $61.85 Volume=900K Target=$71.32 Stop=$59.77
POSITION: HRS AL - Jan. $60c (58 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/hrs.html

Play Date: 10/30/2007
SIAL (Sigma-Aldrich--$50.95; +0.26; optionable): Specialty chemicals
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/sial.html
EARNINGS: Announced 10-23-07
STATUS: Breakout test. Chemicals remain one of the strongest sectors and SIAL is no exception. It broke higher in late September and has continued higher, though it sold back two weeks ago to test, but immediately recovered. Small reverse head and shoulders has tested the move and set up the next break higher. Looking for continued solid volume as seen Tuesday as SIAL bounced up off the 18 day EMA.
Volume: 956.356K Avg Volume: 950.544K
BUY POINT: $51.32 Volume=1.2M Target=$58.95 Stop=$49.69
POSITION: IAQ AJ - Jan. $50c (61 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/sial.html

Play Date: 10/30/2007
SPIL (Siliconware Precision--$11.98; -0.18; optionable): Chip equipment
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/spil.html
EARNINGS: Early November but has not set the date yet.
STATUS: Cup w/handle. SPIL is bouncing off the 50 day EMA test that formed the bottom of the handle to its 16 week base. It bounced higher the past three sessions and paused at the 10 day EMA Tuesday. Looks as if it is ready to make the break after this test and move to a new high. SPIL is a consistent leader, and this is a great set up for a breakout move to make us some nice green.
Volume: 1.454M Avg Volume: 1.723M
BUY POINT: $12.39 Volume=2.5M Target=$14.85 Stop=$11.64
POSITION: SUU AV - Jan. $12.50c (51 delta, 157 OI) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/spil.html

New Leaders: No split histories but in the range and looking strong.

Play Date: 10/30/2007
AMT (American Tower--$44.95; -1.39; optionable): Cell towers
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/amt.html
EARNING: 11-7-07
STATUS: Test breakout. Nice surge the past week as AMT broke higher off the 50 day EMA that formed the bottom of the handle to its 13 week double bottom with handle base. Strong volume on the break higher and then Tuesday it fell rather sharply, but after such a move it was not bad at all given the nice drop in volume as it faded back. May come back a bit more and test toward the 10 day EMA (44.22), but we want to be ready to move in if it puts on the breaks here and starts upside again, say on a positive FOMC decision.
Volume: 2.615M Avg Volume: 2.946M
BUY POINT: $45.12 Volume=3M Target=$51.95 Stop=$43.94
POSITION: AMT AI - Jan. $45c (54 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/amt.html

New buy point on a current position:

Play Date: 10/30/2007
GLDN (Golden Telecom--$99.33; -4.17; optionable): Russian telecom
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/g/gldn.html
EARNINGS: 11-8-07. Not confirmed
STATUS: Test 10 day EMA. Nice strong run for us already after the early September breakout. It has been running up the 10 and 18 day EMA and after a huge surge last week it has come back to test the 10 day EMA (97.81) Tuesday. Looking for it to hold here and will look for a move in from here on a solid bounce.
Volume: 374.903K Avg Volume: 318.115K
BUY POINT: $100.12 Volume=490K Target=$119.95 Stop=$97.65
POSITION: QDV AT - Jan. $100c (57 delta, very low OI) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/gldn.html

Downside:

Play Date: 10/30/2007
LRCX (Lam Research--$50.02; -0.57; optionable): Chip equipment
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/l/lrcx.html
EARNINGS: 10-10-07
STATUS: Put. Collapsed last week on very strong volume last week. It fell through the summertime and the September low at 50 then rebounded this week to test. Volume was lower as it made the bounce, and Tuesday it reached up to the 200 day SMA on the high and then gave it all back and more. Looking for it to roll over after this failed relief bounce. A move to the target lands a 40%ish gain.
Volume: 2.699M Avg Volume: 2.491M
BUY POINT: $49.88 Volume=2.8M Target=$47.11 Stop=$50.62
POSITION: LMQ XJ - Dec. $50c (-46 delta)
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/lrcx.html

Play Date: 10/30/2007
SLB (Schlumberger--$95.99; -3.80; optionable): Oil and gas service company
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/slb.html
EARNINGS: 10-19-07
STATUS: Put. Tanked on earnings and finally held at the 90 day SMA (96.58). It bounced up to the 50 day EMA last week but then started to roll back over this week, undercutting the 90 day on the Tuesday close as volume moved back up. Looks ready to test further and looking to move in as it continues lower. A move to the target lands us a 40%ish gain.
Volume: 9.198M Avg Volume: 9.825M
BUY POINT: $95.58 Volume=9.2M Target=$91.22 Stop=$96.69
POSITION: SLB XS - Dec. $95p (-42 delta)

PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS

We consider many stocks for pre-announcement plays every week. We get information regarding upcoming announcements and other data that leads us to conclude a split announcement is coming. Even then, however, we have to be discriminating. We have to see a strong technical pattern as well, and thus we reject many potential candidates based on a weak technical position.

The key today is to find stocks in strong patterns or that are ready to rebound off support. A split announcement will amplify the move higher in these cases as we enjoy moves from strong leaders in position to run higher. We won't chase a stock in a poor technical position even if we know it is going to split; it simply won't do us any good, i.e. it typically won't make us any money to the upside. We could list all stocks we think are going to split, but again, that won't make us any money unless we are in an office pool as to what stocks will or won't announce a stock split.

Current Pre-Announcement Plays:

This is a list of stocks we are looking to announce splits. We are not in all of the potential splits plays but are letting them set up for the next move. In each report we look at the candidates that are in the best patterns ahead of their potential announcements. This focus on leaders in good patterns allows us to make good money even if companies do not announce the split. The key with splits is the pattern and of course the strong earnings growth that put it in the pattern in the first place.

AAPL: Jobs again made no announcement but AAPL continues to perform.

ACH: Tentatively set for mid-November

ATK: Tentative 11-1-07

ATW: Likely to announce in January.

BHP: Looking to the first week of November

BIDU: Tentative 10-30-07. No split but another good day that banked us some great gain.

BUCY: Early November.

CMG: Tentatively date is 10-30-07. Surging on earnings after hours but no split announcement yet.

CNQ: Forecast 11-1-07

DVN: Forecast 11-7-07. Surging.

GPRO: Forecast tentatively 10-31-07, Halloween.

HRS: 11-1-07

JEC: Forecast 11-6-07

MM: Forecast early November

OII: Forecast 10-31-07

PCP: Researching date

PCU: No split last week but just letting PCU continue the move for us.

RIG: Forecast 10-31-07

SRDX: Researching date

STLD: Researching date

TIF: Last week of November

UA: Forecast 10-30-07. Surging after hours on earnings.

NEW PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS

Play Date: 10/30/2007
MA (MasterCard--$157.15; -0.20; optionable): Credit services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/m/ma.html
EARNINGS: 10-31-07 before the open
STATUS: Cup w/handle. MA bounced off the 50 day EMA last week, putting in the low in its handle to the 15 week base. It is holding the 18 day EMA (153.87) and making a higher low, preparing for the breakout move. Nice volume Tuesday as it moved up to average as it tested and rebounded. Looking for the next break higher to move into the play. Earnings are before the open and of course they will need to be good and then we want to see how it holds in the FOMC aftermath.
Volume: 3.076M Avg Volume: 3.575M
BUY POINT: $158.55 Volume=5M Target=$189.95 Stop=$153.65
POSITION: MAL AL - Jan. $160c (51 delta)

CONTINUING PRE-SPLIT PLAYS

Play Date: 10/27/2007
IDXX (Idexx Labs--$117.84; +1.38; optionable): Veterinary and food and water testing products (hydrophobic dogs?). Splits 2:1 on 11-27-07
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/i/idxx.html
EARNINGS: 10-26-07
STATUS: Ascending base. Kind of volatile the past few sessions, tanking Monday but then holding and bouncing a bit Tuesday. Still held the break higher and looking for a strong move higher from here to enter. To recap: IDXX announced its earnings and split Friday and enjoyed a nice price surge on strong volume, reaching to 125.69 on the high. It peeled back by the close, losing half its session gains. The move broke it out of a 10 week ascending base, taking IDXX to a new all-time high. The fade off of the high looks as if it is going to give us an opportunity to get on this move. Looking for it to hold the Friday close more or less and then resume the upside run. That is when we step in and catch the pre-split run.
Volume: 204.772K Avg Volume: 205.445K
BUY POINT: New: $118.88 (orig. $120.55) Volume=275K Target=$138.65 Stop=$115.65
POSITION: UID AD - Jan. $120c (57 delta, 74 OI)
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/idxx.html

CONTINUING POST SPLIT PLAYS

Play Date: 10/29/2007
HOLX (Hologic--$66.93; -0.22; optionable): Medical appliances (Mammogram machines)
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/h/holx.html
EARNINGS: 11-6-07
STATUS: Breakout test. Tight range, low volume as HOLX continues the nice test, working laterally over the 18 day EMA. Excellent action, great pattern. To recap: HOLX surged higher for us with a late September breakout from its 19 week double bottom base. Strong volume on the breakout, and some distribution volume as the run stalled & it started to sell some. Held up well, however, coming back to the 18 day EMA (65.46) the past week, testing that level on the intraday lows and bouncing. Monday it bounced up on rising, average trade. It looks as if this first test of the breakout is over and HOLX is ready for the upside once more with a run into earnings. Looking to move in as it continues this bounce on some solid trade. Great stock in great position.
Volume: 1.334M Avg Volume: 2.062M
BUY POINT: $68.89 Volume=3M Target=$79.95 Stop=$65.32
POSITION: QHX AM - Jan. $65c (62 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/holx.html

Play Date: 10/27/2007
SAY (Satyam Computer Services--$29.51; -0.22; optionable): ITS services
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/say.html
EARNINGS: Announced 10-23-07
STATUS: Breakout test. Gapped lower but held above the 10 day EMA and rebounded. Low volume continues as it tests. Looking for the next move higher on volume to move in. To recap: SAY exploded higher Tuesday on s strong earnings report, gapping out of a 14 week reverse head and shoulders pattern (with a double bottom as the bottom of the head). It tested Wednesday and Thursday in the overall market selling, with the Thursday intraday test filling the Tuesday gap higher. Friday it was back up, gapping higher and closing near the session high on strong, rising volume. Like how it tested and filled the gap already, setting SAY for a continued run higher to what is a new all-time high. Very solid and very strong.
Volume: 844.901K Avg Volume: 1.364M
BUY POINT: $30.12 Volume=2.3M Target=$35.95 Stop=$28.48
POSITION: SAY AF - Jan. $30c (55 delta) &/or Stock
