THE PLAYS:
New Post-Split:
Play Date: 11/06/2007
APC (Anadarko Petroleum--$59.87; +2.04; optionable): Independent oil and natural gas
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/apc.html
EARNINGS: Announced 11-5-06 after the close
STATUS: Test breakout. After breaking from a 16 week cup base in mid-October, APC formed a 4 week ascending base. Tuesday it made the break higher on stronger, above average volume, clearing to a new closing high. After a good basing period the independent energy companies are starting to break higher. Ready to move into APC as it continues this move to a new high.
Volume: 5.088M Avg Volume: 4.171M
BUY POINT: $60.15 Volume=5M Target=$69.95 Stop=$57.88
POSITION: APC BL - Feb. $60c (53 delta) &/or Stock

New Pre-Split Play:
Play Date: 11/06/2007
CRS (Carpenter Technology--$143.85; +7.85; optionable): Steel and iron. Splits 2:1 on 11-16-07
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/crs.html
EARNINGS: Announced 10-31-07
STATUS: Cup with handle. CRS broke out from its 15 week base to end October, then started the month to the downside in that selling. It held near support at the 18 day EMA (135.40) and started to rebound Tuesday on a solid shot of rising, average trade. Looking to move in as CRS continues higher, grab what we can from this run, then bank the gain. The nice thing is, when CRS moves, it really peels off the real estate.
Volume: 479.15K Avg Volume: 523.977K
BUY POINT: $145.04 Volume=525K Target=$166.95 Stop=$137.39
POSITION: CRS LI - Dec. $145c (49 delta, 189 OI)
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/crs.html
New Leader plays: No split histories but leaders ready to move.
Play Date: 11/06/2007
ATHR (Atheros Communications--$34.68; +0.89; optionable): Semiconductor integrated circuits
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/athr.html
EARNINGS: Announced 10-29-07
STATUS: Breakout test. ATHR gapped higher on its earnings, clearing a 14 week double bottom base. It is making its test of that move this week, coming back to the 10 day EMA (32.74) on Monday's low then rebounding. It was up again Tuesday though volume has lagged behind on this move. A solid market leader. Looking for volume to come in as ATHR continues its move higher that resumes the breakout. That is when we move in.
Volume: 1.243M Avg Volume: 1.649M
BUY POINT: $35.25 Volume=1.8M Target=$42.45 Stop=$33.57
POSITION: QRA CG - Mar. $35c (57 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/athr.html
Play Date: 11/06/2007
KCI (Kinetic Concepts, Inc.--$62.50; +1.00; optionable): Medical appliances
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/k/kci.html
EARNINGS: Announced 10-23-07
STATUS: Ascending triangle. Surging volume this week, particularly on Tuesday but on no real news. It made a higher low at the 90 day SMA (59.50) the past two weeks, and now it is moving higher, moving toward the breakout from its 15 week base. It tanked on its earnings but held the 90 day and continued working on the base. Looking for the breakout on continued solid trade. Very nice pattern.
Volume: 6.457M Avg Volume: 959.902K
BUY POINT: $63.15 Volume=1.1M Target=$72.95 Stop=$60.97
POSITION: KCI CL - Mar. $60c (57 delta, 142 OI) &/or Stock

PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS
We consider many stocks for pre-announcement plays every week. We get information regarding upcoming announcements and other data that leads us to conclude a split announcement is coming. Even then, however, we have to be discriminating. We have to see a strong technical pattern as well, and thus we reject many potential candidates based on a weak technical position.
The key today is to find stocks in strong patterns or that are ready to rebound off support. A split announcement will amplify the move higher in these cases as we enjoy moves from strong leaders in position to run higher. We won't chase a stock in a poor technical position even if we know it is going to split; it simply won't do us any good, i.e. it typically won't make us any money to the upside. We could list all stocks we think are going to split, but again, that won't make us any money unless we are in an office pool as to what stocks will or won't announce a stock split.
Current Pre-Announcement Plays:
This is a list of stocks we are looking to announce splits. We are not in all of the potential splits plays but are letting them set up for the next move. In each report we look at the candidates that are in the best patterns ahead of their potential announcements. This focus on leaders in good patterns allows us to make good money even if companies do not announce the split. The key with splits is the pattern and of course the strong earnings growth that put it in the pattern in the first place.
AAPL: Jobs again made no announcement but AAPL continues to perform.
ACH: Tentatively set for mid-November
ATK: No split announcement but surged on earnings. Looking for a test back to give us another entry point on this strong leader.
ATW: Likely to announce in January.
BIDU: No split to end October, but quite a run. Struggled a bit today.
BUCY: No announcement with earnings, but after a bit of volatility it is ready for more upside.
CNQ: Exploding higher even without a split announcement.
DVN: Forecast 11-7-07
EDU: Surging higher on strong volume.
GPRO: No announcement last week and is testing the 50 day EMA
ISRG: Looking to pinpoint a date.
JEC: Forecast 11-6-07. Nice surge on good volume as it announced strong earnings.
JOYG: Researching date. Likely around earnings in mid-December
PCP: Researching date.
PCU: Got a bit rocky and closed the position. Looking for another entry point.
RIG: Still screaming higher.
SID: Tentatively set for mid-November
SRDX: Researching date. Falling back to the 50 day EMA.
STLD: Researching date. Nice solid move higher Tuesday after the test of the 18 day EMA
SU: Researching date. Exploding higher.
XTO: Researching date.
NEW PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS
New buy point:
Play Date: 11/06/2007
BUCY (Bucyrus International--$86.23; +4.04; optionable): Heavy equipment (draglines, cranes, etc.)
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/b/bucy.html
EARNINGS: Announced 11-1-07
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Broke higher in late October a week ahead of its earnings, clearing a 13 week base. It got caught in some selling but held the 18 day EMA to start the month in that heavy selling last Thursday. It found support, however, and rebounded, moving off that level on some strong volume Tuesday. Very nice action as BUCY looks to have found its way out of this base. Ready to move in as it continues the run higher and into new all-time high territory.
Volume: 885.696K Avg Volume: 639.847K
BUY POINT: $86.54 Volume=650K Target=$99.95 Stop=$81.32
POSITION: HBU AQ - Jan. $85c (59 delta) or HBU DR - Apr. $90c (48 delta) &/or Stock

CONTINUING PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT PLAYS
Play Date: 11/03/2007
ISRG (Intuitive Surgical--$317.07; +7.66; optionable): Surgical devices and parts
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/i/isrg.html
EARNINGS: Announced 10-18-07
STATUS: Test breakout. Gapped higher, tested and then rebounded to close nicely higher. Volume did not move with it. Wanted to see how it moved on Wednesday to decide if that low volume is a factor. If it continues higher we will move into some positions. The beauty about ISRG right here is that it made a good test and even with this bounce it still can give us a lot more upside. To recap: ISRG surged higher in mid-October as it made the first test of the early October breakout from a 9 week ascending base. It rallied to 340 on that move and then spent the past 7 sessions coming back to test, holding the 10 day EMA on the Friday close. One of the stronger stocks in the market, we are looking to move in when this test is complete. Want to see it hold near the 10 day EMA on this test and then start back up from there.
Volume: 1.028M Avg Volume: 1.154M
BUY POINT: New: $317.89 (orig. $312.88) Volume=1.8M Target=$374.00 Stop=$309.22
POSITION: AXV AA - Jan. $310c (57 delta) or AXV AB - Jan. $320c (47 delta)

Play Date: 10/23/2007
PCP (Precision Castparts--$153.72; +4.55; optionable): Metal fabrication
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/pcp.html
EARNINGS: Announced 10 -23-07
STATUS: Reverse head and shoulders. Broke nicely higher Tuesday though volume lagged. If it can hold this move and add to it Wednesday we will look to add some positions. To recap: Working laterally the past week in a very tight range below 150 and above the 18 day EMA (147.43). Very nice action in the short 6 week base that formed immediately after the break from an 8 week pattern in September. Just going to let it show us a break higher on strong volume.
Volume: 1.076M Avg Volume: 1.418M
BUY POINT: New: $153.08 (orig. $147.78) Volume=1.6M Target=$169.95 Stop=$144.69
POSITION: PCP CJ - Mar. $150c (52 delta)
http://www.investmenthouse.com/cs/pcp.html
CONTINUING POST-SPLIT PLAYS:
Play Date: 11/05/2007
SCSC (Scansource--$36.02; +0.56; optionable): Specialty technology products
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/scsc.html
EARNINGS: Announced 10-25-07
STATUS: Breakout test. Broke higher Tuesday though volume did not move with it. Still in great position to move higher, just want to see more investors behind this continued breakout move. To recap: Strong break higher on the earnings results, gapping out of a 17 week double bottom with handle base. It has come back to test the move, tapping at the 18 day EMA on the Monday low. Has not filled the gap but was moving up after it opened lower, and it may be some time before it does fill it. In other words, if it is moving higher on volume from here we won't wait for the fill as SCSC moves toward a bigger breakout from a 3 year base to a new all-time high.
Volume: 213.984K Avg Volume: 254.673K
BUY POINT: $36.11 Volume=375K Target=$42.95 Stop=$33.95
POSITION: UHI CG - Mar. $35c (55 delt, 66 OI) &/or Stock

CONTINUING LEADER PLAYS:
Play Date: 11/03/2007
SNDA (Shanda Interactive Ent.--$39.19; +0.22; optionable): Online games in China
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/s/snda.html
EARNINGS: Late November
STATUS: Ascending base. Still testing the 18 day EMA (38.44) the past week, doing it again Tuesday on the intraday low and rebounding to hold the 10 day EMA on lower, below average volume. Being patient to see if it shows us the high volume break higher to give us the buy. To recap: Looking at one that has made us great coin in the past. SNDA is part of the China cadre that is moving well and looks ready to move some more. SNDA has moved through a 6 week base up the 18 day EMA (38.28) and closed the week bumping up against the resistance in the pattern. Has shown good upside volume on the bounces higher. Looking for that volume to surge as it makes the breakout move. That gives us the buy point.
Volume: 1.214M Avg Volume: 1.692M
BUY POINT: $40.76 Volume=2.4M Target=$48.95 Stop=$38.11
POSITION: QKU CH - Mar. $40c (53 delta) &/or Stock
