Beign part 3 of 3

THE PLAYS:

Upside:

Play Date: 07/09/2008
ABMD (Abiomed--$18.00; +0.09; optionable): Medical instruments
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/abmd.html
EARNINGS: Mid-August
STATUS: Test 18 day EMA. Broke out from a 6 month base to start June, rallied to 20 and is making its first test of that strong move. Has moved back to support at the 18 day EMA (17.88) on light trade. Looking for it to continue the breakout move on some stronger trade to give us the entry point.
Volume: 175.786K Avg Volume: 310.453K
BUY POINT: $18.44 Volume=350K Target=$22.32 Stop=$17.15
POSITION: IBU IW - Sept. $17.50c (61 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 07/09/2008
CHP (C&D Technologies--$8.73; +0.37; no options): Electrical power storage systems
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/c/chp.html
EARNINGS: Announced 6-5-08
STATUS: Breakout test. Blasted off in early June on earnings, clearing a 19 month base. Big breakout and this is the first test, using the market selling to come back to near support at the 18 day EMA (8.19) on mostly lower volume then breaking higher Wednesday. It has been a long downtrend but this last break higher out of the base has broken that trend. Ready to move in as CHP continues higher and recovers some past glory. Good time to move into this one.
Volume: 532.569K Avg Volume: 303.048K
BUY POINT: $8.83 Volume=325K Target=$11.31 Stop=$8.22
POSITION: - Stock (no option chain)

Play Date: 07/09/2008
KNSY (Kensey Nash Corp.--$32.93; +0.56; optionable): Medical instruments
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/k/knsy.html
EARNINGS: Late July
STATUS: Test 18 day EMA. Excellent surge in mid-June out of a 6.5 month base, rallying on strong volume. In the market selling it is coming back to test, holding near support at the 18 day EMA (32.20). In this kind of market like to play the first test of a breakout as that shows buyers are ready to move in even at a higher price. Nice volume, good sector.
Volume: 101.424K Avg Volume: 114.464K
BUY POINT: $33.32 Volume=200K Target=$39.95 Stop=$31.97
POSITION: QKN IF - Sept. $30c (71 delta) &/or Stock

Play Date: 07/09/2008
MASI (Masimo--$35.77; +1.37; optionable): Diagnostic imaging
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/m/masi.html
EARNINGS: Late July
STATUS: Cup w/handle. Strong shot of volume Wednesday as MASI started the breakout from its 7 month nicely formed base. A new issue in August 2007, this is its first real base and it is starting a solid breakout. Ready to move in as it continues higher.
Volume: 1.334M Avg Volume: 575K
BUY POINT: $35.91 Volume=650K Target=$41.45 Stop=$33.96
POSITION: MQS IG - Sept. $35c (55 delta) &/or Stock
http://www.investmenthouse.com/ci/masi.html

Downside: If the market breaks lower again from here these indices still have a ways to fall.

S&P Mid-Cap 400 plays: Choose whether you want to play a put for a downside move or play the ultrashort ETF where you buy an upside position that rises as the index it covers falls.

Play Date: 07/09/2008
IJH (SP400 Midcap ETF--$78.38; -1.18; optionable)
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/i/ijh.html
STATUS: Put. Tapped the 10 day EMA on the upside Wednesday and then rolled over on a volume surge. After that 1.5 day bounce it is ready to head lower once more. A move to the target lands a 45%ish gain.

NASDAQ 100 downside plays: Again choose to play a put to the downside on QQQQ or an upside long position on QID that rises as the index falls.

Play Date: 07/09/2008
QQQQ (Nasdaq 100 Trust--$44.75; -1.22; optionable)
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/q/qqqq.html
STATUS: Put. Bounced up off the test of the April low, looked solid to bounce. Then reversed at the 10 day EMA (45.60) on the Wednesday high. If the market makes a break lower NASDAQ 100 is heading toward the 2008 lows near 42. A move ot the target lands a 56%ish gain.
